Amman
- Jordan - (January 3, 2006) - Authorities in Jordan banned the
distribution and handling of A. S. Bishtawi's latest book
History of Injustice in the Arab World.
Jordan, considered until recently one of the more moderate of Arab
states, provided no explanation or reason for banning the book which
was launched on 16 December 2005 at the Sharjah International Book
Fair.
In
2002 the Ministry of Information in Jordan banned another book by
the author: Traces of a Tattoo, his first
published novel but the ban was lifted following a review prompted
by a lengthy Radio Interview with the author by MBC during which
he criticised the authorities for living in the middle ages.
Other
books by A. S. Bishtawi are banned in a number of Arab countries
including Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
